How long either will last is anyone’s guess (Tuesday update: the second already seems to have gone). But somehow I knew I would find areas of the South Korean media momentarily more bothered about Ji Dong-won’s superb finish – sidestepping the inconvenient offside issue – than events in North Korea.
Ji is the toast of Seoul just as he is the star of Sunderland. Someone pointed out at the Blackcats list that the Stadium of Light press box places normally snapped up by South Korean journalists were empty yesterday, perhaps reflecting pessimism about his chances of seeing much of the Man City game. They’ll be back at Wigan just in case…

The 21-year-old found the back of the net in the 93rd minute with the last kick of the game, barely 10 seconds left in injury time, to excite more than 40,000 home fans.
The Korean striker, who came on as a substitute in the 78th minute, latched onto Stephane Sessegnon’s pass and rounded goalkeeper Joe Hart, before rolling the ball into the empty net.

Ji Dong-won scored a stoppage-time winner on Sunday to lead Sunderland to a stunning 1-nil victory over Manchester City at the Stadium of Light.

Korea international Ji Dong-won scored a last-gasp winner for Sunderland against Premier League leaders Manchester City, Monday (KST).
The 20-year-old striker rounded goalkeeper Joe Hart to score in the 93rd minute for a surprising 1-0 win against City at the Stadium of Light.
It was his second goal, the first coming against Chelsea in September, when he also struck in the last minute.
“They are one of the best teams in the league and to score the winning goal in the final minute is special,” said Ji, in an interview posted on Sunderland’s official website. “All the fans and my teammates were so happy and that is number one for me.”
He added, “I have scored our first goal for 2012 so hopefully things can carry on going well in the coming year.”

Methinks bluemoon has already forgotten what it was like for City fans (for how many years?). You’d have to be devoid of emotion and passion not to see why the place erupted and why we’re making a meal of it.

We had a 20 year old midfielder (Colback) playing out of his natural position for the first time, another midielder in Gardner at right back. We had a goalkeeper playing with a mask to protect an injury who hadn’t trained for 6 weeks. James McClean making his full debut.\
Such is our injury crisis that we had three lads on the bench who have virtually no first team experience at all (Carson, Noble and Laing), and our enforced substitution mid way through the first half gave Matt Kilgallon his first PL game since May 2010.
You on the other hand do not have a place on your bench for the likes of Balotelli, and your first two substitutes in Aguero and Silva cost a whopping 66 million.
With all those odd stacked against us, we still beat you, so we have every right to be be pleased and proud.
Conversely, you have every right to treat to be treated to some humility once in a while.
