The Mackem diaspora acquires a new member. He will live to see greater times for SAFC …

The poor mite
has no reason to know it but he’s been born a Mackem. An adopted one, by all means, but I bet the first Premier League game his dad takes him to involves Sunderland and that is a qualifying act in Monsieur Salut’s criteria for Proper SAFC Fandom.

Robert Simmons whiled away some of the time awaiting the arrival of his fourth child by advising Martin O’Neill on substitution policy. What either Mrs S or Master S will one day make of that is anyone’s guess.

But we are pleased as punch that Robert was able to tweet tonight: “We’ve got a healthy baby boy with 3 excited sisters.”

Bravo all concerned.

Salut! Sunderland is written, illustrated and edited by - and principally for - supporters of Sunderland AFC. The site aims to be sufficiently literate and entertaining to appeal to people who do not follow SAFC but enjoy good football writing.

Many congratulations Robert. All the best to you, the missus and the girls.

    Ha’way the Lad!

Thanks! If anyone has any Sunderland gear for infants, feel free to send it my way! We lack that sort of stuff over here!

Have a look on EBay Robert. Best wishes to all concerned.

It’s clearly catching. Goldy and Jake are also recent dads.

I suppose it’s more fun than watching the footy!

She’s one in a month!!! Frightening.

I’ve sent my congrats on Twitter and will do again. Sure when you move to Scotland we’ll meet the fella.

That’s certainly the plan. I’ll be visiting in August and may venture south with the boy to check out the Stadium of Light.

I knew the Republicans had plunged the country into economic chaos, Robert, but isn’t this is bit drastic?

        • Goldy March 7, 2013 at 8:31 am #

          *may *will definitely

The season starts in August so there may even be a touch of misguided optimism floating around the Wearside air.

          • Robert Simmons March 7, 2013 at 12:41 pm #

I’m all for misguided optimism. I think it’s why Sunderland went out of its way to choose me as a fan.

Certainly the sort that we’ve been playing lately.

    • malcolm March 7, 2013 at 8:53 am #

You don’t fancy us to win the Championship then Bill?

(Only joking Lads – we won’t go down!)
