Pete Sixsmith had a long trek home from East Anglia yesterday. I bet the fish and chips tasted especially good at Wetherby after a fine 3-1 win. We’ll doubtless hear from him some time day – his report of the match, and his travels leading up to it, is eagerly awaited. In the meantime, start thinking about Wednesday and Wednesday, the third league match of the season …

Matches come thick and fast when you drop to the Championship and we already have three winners of Guess the Score waiting patiently for their prize mugs. Since Paul Devinbe (1-1 vs Derby),  Phil Davison (1-0 to Bury and Eric Bowers (3-1 vs Norwich) are regulars on the podium, they’ll know Monsieur Salut can sometimes be slow to get round to having the prizes shipped out.

Don’t let my tardiness put you off telling us how the Lads will get on at Hillsborough after a promising start under Simon Grayson.

As usual, the competition is open to all supporters, Sheffield Wednesday’s, ours and indeed neutrals. Be first to post the correct scoreline before kickoff and you will receive a mug (UK delivery only) with a design reflecting your allegiance.

Come back later today for another impressive Who are You? interview, this time with Owls fans and DJ Dave Briggs.

Sample:

Salut! Sunderland: Keiren Westwood, Steven Fletcher and Ross Wallace are the obvious current links between our clubs. Assess them and their likely roles in the coming season?

Dave: Kieran Westwood is one of the best goalkeepers in the division and has kept us in games single handily at times, his distribution leaves a lot to be desired at times but there is no doubt he’s a great shot stopper.

I like Steven Fletcher, I think him up top with Gary Hooper is our best pairing. He came on leaps and bounds towards the end of last season after struggling to find his feet a little but I personally think he should start every game along side Gary Hooper. The problem he has is their is plenty of competition for the front two spots with Hooper, Fernando, Jordan Rhodes, him and Sam Winnall all vying for two spots. I’m not even including Nuhiu and Joao in that list either.
Ross Wallace is another one I’m a fan of, he does drift in and out of games at times but his ability to score from range and his direct play means for me he’s a player that should be in the squad. He has competition on the right wing now with the capture of George Boyd from Burnley so we will see how things pan out for him this season.
And now you can all start guessing Wednesday’s score. Ha’way the Lads …

Although I’m feeling a little happier than last season and we’ve got a record at Wednesday, I’ll go for a draw, hopefully not jinxing them now! 🙂

    2-2

Again, I’m expecting a draw so will plump for 4-1 to the lads.
