Monsieur Salut introduces another prize edition of Guess rhe Score and promises belated movement on the backlog of winners …
As we hover just above the relegation zone despite ending the losing run, there is just one consolation: it’s a different relegation zone with names like Brentfor, Burmingham and Bolton instead of Palace, Bournemouth and – would you believe it, Jordan? – Everton.
Another heavy defeat leaves them third bottom.
How seriously will Ronald Koeman take this league cup – sorry, third round Carabao Cup – game? How seriously does he need to? With or without Rooney, Williams, Baines, Sigurdsson etc, they’d expect this to be a routine home win.
But perhaps our Lads take heart from a slightly better pair of performances – chances galore against oirest before they snatched a win, a good first half and finally a draw at Hull – and pull off a surprise. It would do morale good, even if winning in the league is starting to look rather necessary.
I now have six prize mugs to order and hope to clear that backlog this week. Two of this season’s winners – Phil Davison and Paul Devine, both exiles (Mexico and the Netherlands respectively) – are owed two. Eric Bowers (inevitably, though Phil and Paul keep winning, too) and Michael Robinson are owed one apiece.
So make sure Mosnieur Salut has to dig deep again and get it right with the Goodison score.
The winning prediction will be the score at 90 minutes or after extra time. By all means tell us what a penalty shootout would bring but that won’t count for the prize.
Usual rules: you need a UK delivery address but can be a support of either side or neither to be entitled to enter. Three-nil to them is taken. Under my new rule, the Who are You? interviewee’s forecast is automatically entered and Bernard Walker sees a 3-0 home win as the likely outcome
Let us hope is very wrong and that Simon Grayson and his team have something to celebrate.

Jake: ‘allow Monsieur Salut to introduce another season of Guess the Score competitions’
Haway the Lads.
I am your Who are You? interviewee for this match and reckon my Evertonians will trounce you. Well, 3-0. According to M Salut, that’s an entry (and he wrote this comment)
2-0 to us. I’ve seen it happen before, and now that Vaughan’s on fire……
The eternal optimist again don’t think we will reach my usual prediction but believe we will have a strong side out and will nick it 2-1 to the lads
2 – 2 AET, then we all sing ABBA songs to decide who wins. The Winner Takes It All rather than SOS I hope.
It depends on how many changes are made by each team. I think their second eleven will be far stronger than our’s. (Probably stronger than our first eleven.)
I’m not optimistic.
Everton 2 Sunderland 0
We can concentrate on the league, for the moment.
1-0 to Sunderland. Everton are all over the place and
they capitulated Sunderland fashion at Old Trafford.
The Lads to win 1-0,time for another good run in the “League Cup”.
I think Everton will field a fairly strong side to try to atone for recent poor form. But I am optimistically going for 1-1 aet.
Sadly for us, 3-1 to Everton but hoping for a miracle.
