Jake: ‘no mustard jokes here’

Will Sunderland return to the tradition of the post-match manager’s e-mail under Chris Coleman? If so, will his first be to salute a debut rather more impressive than the last author of such missives, David Moyes, managed with West Ham?

Pete Sixsmith has already promised never again to use mustard puns in relation to our new boss. So if we do start receiving, and publishing, Coleman’s thoughts, however massaged by press office staff, that rule will extend to the title of the feature.

Bill Taylor has already suggested Colemanballs, assuming the prudish aggregators whose mentions of our headlines spread the word about Salut! Sunderland don’t take exception and block it. But what, I asked Bill, if he makes an immediate positive impact? Coleman Delivers came the response from that Mackem in Toronto.

We’ll see.

For now, have a go at the prize Guess the Score for the first match with Coleman in charge, Villa away tomorrow night (Tuesday).

There is already plenty to read about top four versus bottom of the table, Aston Villa vs Sunderland: catch another top-class Who are You? – “never met an unkind Sunderland supporter so all are welcome in my book,” says Josh Henwood in his interview – and, better still, more of Sixer’s reminscences about the first time he set eyes on an opposing team or their ground. Go to this link for a great read about his experiences as a Sunderland supporter at Villa Park.

Usual rules. Josh reckons a 2-1 home win so that is the first entry. The first correct prediction wins the entrant a prize, either a suitably designed mug or – if a Sunderland supporter – a copy of the second volume of Tales from the Red and Whites.

You must have a UK delivery address. And Monsieur Salut’s decision shall be final.

Ha’way Chris Coleman’s Lads …

This could be yours …

Villa will be too strong, 2-0 to them. I am usually wrong and hope that I am open to ridicule on Wednesday morning.

I am just relieved no one has yet gone for 6-1, not even our Who are You? interviewee who recalls that scoreline as a memorable Villa-SAFC game … http://salutsunderland.com/2017/11/aston-villa-vs-sunderland-who-are-you-bruces-winning-feeling-and-baffling-tactics/

The eternal optimist feel that after the draw on Saturday the lads will still be on a bit of a high grabban was robbed and should have had a hatrick as he would have scored the pen he should have been given and nothing wrong with the disallowed goal he’s on fire can’t see a clean sheet so 4-2 to the lads

No one will score, a 0 – 0 bore draw the first brick in the rebuilding of Sunderland AFC. Very welcome it will be too.
